• In 2003, Fenty was one of two original introducers of legislation to ban smoking in nearly all indoor workplaces, including bars and restaurants.  The legislation will protect workers and patrons from the harmful effects of secondhand smoke, an environmental health hazard known to cause cancer. 

• A Clean Environment
  Fenty supports the creation and implementation of a Department of the Environment. The air we breathe, our rivers and our green space are threatened from carbon monoxide, toxic run-off and poor government stewardship in managing and enforcing environmental laws. People in the District suffer from high rates of asthma and other illness due to the pollution and toxic substances in our environment

• Ensure coordination between DPR and MPD to bring community policing activities into the Parks (30 days).

• Install fuel rings (wireless device attached to the car to track gas purchases and consumption). on all District vehicles. (9 months).
• Do a demonstration project to retrofit District buildings with green roofs. (1 year).
• Institute photo ticketing by street sweepers ? sweepers will photograph vehicles parked in the street-sweeping lane, and a citation is then mailed to the violator. (1 year).
• Convert all DC government heavy vehicles using diesel fuel to ultra-low sulfur fuel (1st year).
• Break ground on Phase II of the Metropolitan Branch Trail (1st year).
