•  David Duane "Dave" Freudenthal is the governor of Wyoming. 

• Elected in 2002, Freudenthal — a Democrat in a largely Republican state — has tried to strike a balance between developing energy resources and preserving the environment.

• He has consistently supported efforts to protect wilderness areas such as the Bridger-Teton National Forest from oil and gas drilling, but has supported the Black Hills Corporation’s WyGen II and III coal-fired power plants.

• He has been criticized over the state’s “shoot-on-sight” approach to curbing its wolf population.
