  • DeGeneres starred in a series of films for a show named   Ellen's Energy Adventure  which is part of the Universe of Energy attraction and pavilion at Walt Disney World's Epcot. The film also featured Bill Nye (the science guy),. The show revolved around DeGeneres falling asleep and finding herself in an energy-themed version of Jeopady,  playing against an old rival (portrayed by Curtis) and Albert Einstein. The next film had DeGeneres hosting an educational look at energy, co-hosted with Nye.
  • Ellen DeGeneres, comedienne and host of her own popular daytime talk show, is doing her part to save animals affected by oil in the environment. Having grown up in Louisiana, she knows how important it is for aquatic mammals to live in clean waters.

Ellen has started her own flock to create an online community of her fans making a difference. Here is how:

  •  REDUCE OIL IN THE ENVIRONMENT:Avoid pouring motor oil or other oily substances into storm drains, on the ground or in a ditch. Instead, recycle used oil and antifreeze at a recycling center.  Keep vehicles well-maintained to prevent oil/fuel leakage on the ground and in water.  Place cooking oils and fats in a sealed container in the garbage instead of pouring them down the kitchen drain.  Avoid topping off at the gas pump as it can cause gas to spill onto the ground, and the residue can run off into our creeks and our ocean.  Use drip pans when unclipping hoses, unscrewing filters, or removing car parts.  Walk, cycle or even take the bus whenever possible.    OTHER WAYS TO HELP THE ENVIRONMENT:Reuse and recycle plastic. Many marine animals such as turtles, whales, and dolphins confuse plastic with food. When ingested, their digestive tracts may become blocked and they may die from starvation.  Bring your own reusable canvas or cotton bag to the grocery store or to the mall to carry your purchases. You can also reuse paper or plastic bags to help reduce trash.  Dispose of fishing lines/lures properly to help keep them out of the ocean as animals can mistake them for food.  Avoid releasing helium balloons into the sky as they often end up in bodies of water.  If purchasing beverages attached with "six pack" plastic rings, cut the rings apart before throwing it away. Birds, fish and small land animals can get caught in the rings.  If you find an aquatic animal that is oiled or injured, contact your local wildlife rehabilitation organization or animal control center. Keep an eye on the animal until help arrives and do not touch, wash, or feed it. Stay 50 feet back from it, and keep people and dogs away.  If you do not find a specific wildlife rehabilitation organization or animal control center in your area, call your local Game & Fish Department, Animal Control Officer, Humane Society, or veterinarian. They may be able to direct you to a local organization for help.  Stay informed on current issues and help educate friends and family. Use your voice by writing to government officials and supporting legislation that protects the environment
