I do not know exactly how state my case, so I will list what I do.  I am positive there is more, but this is all that I can think of right now:

  • I reduce my waste, recycle goods, and reuse items
  • I changed the bulbs in my house to CFL or LED bulbs
  • I vermicompost and compost via Bokashi
  • I freecycle
  • I regularly donate old clothes and items to charitable organizations instead of throwing them out
  • I buy local, organic, or near organic foods
  • I drive a diesel car
  • I installed "smart power strips" that turn off accessory items when a main item is not used to reduce "vampire appliances"
  • I converted all of my battery-popwered items to rechargeable
  • I put a "hippo" in my old-school toilets to use less water
  • I have replaced appliances in my house with "energy saver" certified models
  • I have a solar charging unit for my cell phone and iPod
  • I installed a programable thermostat
  • I turn off the lights when they are not needed
  • I donate to local, national, and global environmental organizations
  • I contact my elected officials regarding environmental issues
  • I tell my friends and family things they can do to be more environmentally friendly
  • I try to look for items made from recycled or repurposed materials
  • I turn the water off during the shower while lathering up
  • I go to many environmental websites, e.g. grist.org, treehugger.com, etc., to be better informed

That is all I can think of for now.  I am sure I will update this in the near future.

Community:
I live in Burke, VA - a suburb of Washington, DC.
Home and Office:
I live in a townhouse. My office building is on top of a subway station and also has several bus stops. There is an active recycling campaign within the office. Working for a County Government, we encourage the citizens to recycle as well. They recently adjusted the contract with the Company that handles their recycling to accept all forms of plastic. They used to only accept plastic bottles and jars.
Leisure & Recreation:
My hobbies include photography, watching and playing rugby, watching soccer, traveling, and music.
Transportation:
I drive an '05 VW Gold TDI - a diesel. It currently gets 40 mpg per tank, but is slowly rising as the engine continues to break in. My wife's vehicle is an '02 VW Golf TDI. When it is opportunistic, we take the bus and/or subway.
Job & Career:
Civil Engineer for a County Government in Virginia.
Diet:
I shop at my local farmers market when it is available. I look to see if there is an organic option available at the grocery store.
