- Reliant Energy owns or operates approximately 16,000 MW of generating capacity in 9 states. Our ongoing environmental program at these stations ensures that operations at these sites meet or exceed federal, state or local regulations that govern air emissions to the atmosphere, wastewater discharges to surface waters or groundwater, or industrial waste disposal at offsite or onsite permitted disposal sites.
- Residents of Kivalina, an Alaska village, sued the company and two dozen other oil, power, and coal companies. The village is claiming that the companies contributed to global warming, which is threatening the village by melting sea ice which protects the village from fall and winter storm waves and surges.
- PennEnvironment and the Sierra Club allege that Reliant is liable for numerous violations of its Clean Water Act discharge permit on practically every day the Conemaugh Station has operated over the past two years.

The Conemaugh Generating Station is owned by Reliant Resources. It is primarily a coal-fired polluting power plant in western Pennsylvania near New Florence in Indiana County. Its power output is 1700 megawatts from coal and 12 megawatts from diesel. It has a scrubber and some other upgrades to reduce emissions.
PollutionMercury OutputThe Conemaugh Generating Station is listed as producing 494 pounds of mercury pollution in 1999, which was about one quarter of what Homer City and Keystone each put out.
